Time for a Change

Happy New Year!!!

Sorry I have been MIA for a few weeks. I was enjoying my family and friends, and might have had an amazing New Years Trip to NOLA (which I love!!!)! Over the holidays, I had time to reflect on last year, how much my life has changed being an entrepreneur…and I am making some changes in 2014.

Vixen NOLA

Over the past year, I have struggled to enjoy any successes. Honestly, brushed right past them and moved on immediately to the next goal or obstacle. Being an entrepreneur you learn that everything depends on you, and there is not much time to stop and smell the roses, it’s just full steam ahead.

You layout goals, achieve them and it just feels like another day, and if you don’t meet them, you beat yourself up and constantly review what you did wrong and what you could have done better.

Well, this year, I am making a change. I was reading a number of articles about being an entrepreneur, and the one that struck me focused on systems vs goals from Entrepreneur Magazine (it’s a must read!).

This article hones in on the need for systems, not goals, to make you succeed. No team wins a game without consistent practice, key drills and team dedication. It’s about setting structure with daily to-dos in each business area and committing to them (practicing everyday) and you will ultimately achieve your goal.

It seems so contradictory to what we have always been told in life and work: at the beginning of the year, set your monthly, quarterly and annual goals. But during this process, we become more focused on the goals than the steps needed to reach them.

I am not saying that I am not going to have goals…I have a bazillion, but I am going to focus less on the goal and more of setting the right tasks/systems in place to reach them…and this year, I am going to enjoy and reflect more on our wins and continue to learn from our mistakes (we are all human and we all make mistakes, the key is learning from them).

It’s about looking to the next hour or the next day, and not focusing so much on the end goal that I lose sight of how to get there.

Officially time for a cocktail now,
