Vixen Vodka

So the Vixens had a whirlwind trip to NYC (via Newark) and have the battle scars to prove it!

First, we always check a bag because usually said bag contains a few or more bottles of the most delicious nectar in the world wrapped in old beach towels! We always hold our breath to see if the weight limit is achieved. We’ve been known to flash our winning smiles at a gate agent to see if that makes a difference.   It usually does not.

Flight uneventful, except we did score a free cocktail from that gate agent because of our winning smiles, so we are off to a good start . . . or so we think . . .

After picking up our very heavy (tag on it says so!), we go out to hail a cab. One of us flashes her sweet Southern smile at a gentleman with a fluorescent vest on when he says looking for a cab? Yes she says so he grabs her arm and propels her to a stretch GMC Yukon Denali. Wait, she says, we just want a cab! No, no this is better, same price. The other Vixen is struggling to keep up with the luggage, a purse and a briefcase when she finds herself in the back of this GYPSY GMC Yukon Denali.

We begin furiously texting each other, “we’re going to die, aren’t we” “at least we’re going to go out in style” “where is he taking us?” “I’m pretty sure he’s taking us to the address you gave him” “what’s this going to cost us” “more than we budgeted I bet” . . . all this going on while Justin Bieber sings “Sorry” on the radio.

Lo and behold, we do get to our hotel intact and alive. Then the haggling starts over the price. We get him to agree to 20% lower than what he initially wanted to charge so we feel that we won that battle. Especially the intact and alive part.  Whew!  Then it was time for a cocktail  — naturally:)

Over the next two days there were many business meetings to attend, networking, negotiating and tastings oh my!

Before we knew it, it was time to schedule an Uber to whisk us into the city for a few hours (no more gypsy cabs!)  – we had another meeting, but also wanted to at least see the tree in Rockefeller Center!

We have the Uber app – we requested a driver, we put in our pick up and our destination. Then we waited . . . and waited . . . and waited. Uber does that cool thing where you can see your driver’s profile pic, their car and their car’s location. We got Judy (name changed to protect her . . . ok it was Carol). She was driving a Toyota Rav 4. She drove that Rav 4 all around Newark NJ except to our pick up location. We texted her, we called her, we texted again, we called again. Always the same response, I’m almost there, I’m almost there. As we watch her little car go in and out of neighborhoods . . .

So . . . . . she finally shows up in her little Toyota Rav 4 packed to the gills with her own stuff! (remember we have big ole suitcases)   She begins furiously rearranging her stuff so she can STUFF our bags in – it doesn’t look like she’s gonna win that battle, when she innocently asks, “where you girls goin’?” I look at her and say didn’t you get my destination information? We’re going to Rockefeller Center. She looks up from her struggle and says, “ohhhhh I ain’t never been into the city . . . “   I grab the other Vixen’s arm and pull her out of the back seat, “get out”   “Carol, er I mean Judy, we’re cancelling you and requesting another driver.” “No, no, girls, I got GPS.” “No no no, we don’t want to be your first trip into the Big Apple – go about your merry way, dear, this is for your safety as well as ours.” And we parted friends.

We did get into the city, intact and alive, with our next Uber driver who deposited us smack in front of Rockefeller Center, where a nice policeman took pity on us trying to take a selfie AND get the tree in the same shot, and took our picture. Thanks Officer Reynolds!

After yet another very productive meeting, we scored a 2016 red stiletto ornament at the Met store and two delicious sandwiches from Dean & Deluca before we got into yet another Uber and headed off to our next flight.

We had a blast (despite the gypsy cab and Carol Judy), and are gearing up for more in 2016. Next year is going to be a crazy busy super fun absolutely nuts year for the Vixens with what we’ve got in store and we can’t wait for you guys to come along with us.   With a cocktail of course!
