Entrepreneur? Who Me?

I never thought I wanted to be an entrepreneur.  I’ve always known I liked making money but making money and being an entrepreneur are two totally different things.

I went to work at age 13 – I had to get my parents’ permission and a work permit and off I went to my first job at the local movie theatre.   My dad made me quit when they started showing Emmanuelle (I think I wrote about that before).  I promptly got another work permit and went to work at Baskin Robbins until I switched to banking and finance at age 16 and became a branch manager at age 18.

So I’m not a stranger to hard work, not at all, but I always thought that I was a worker bee, not a queen bee.  Especially after my divorce.  I thought let me just go to a job, punch the clock, have someone tell me what to do and when to do it and then punch the clock, come home and watch Dancing with the Stars all night.

One little trip to the beach changed all that.

So now I’m an entrepreneur.  We are living our lives like no one else so that one day we can live our life like no one else (I credit Ludacris for that quote).  We never stop working, we never stop thinking about how to sell more vodka, where to sell it, how to get more brand exposure, how to shave our margins.  We budget our time for presentations to potential investors, pitches to media, to post to all forms of social every day, to meet with sales teams, to meet with restaurant owners, bartenders, liquor store owners.  But It. Is. So. Much. Fun.  I’d highly recommend it.

If you have an idea, or an idea how something can be done better, go for it.  What do you have to lose?  We call Vixen our why not moment.  Why not make a vodka for women by women?  Why not go for our dream and make it a reality?  Other people call it their What Else moment.  But more than anything I didn’t want to look back and make it my What If Moment, My If Only Moment.  I never wanted to wonder  what if?  If only I had . . .

The year we started Vixen I had two New Year’s Resolutions:  One, never turn down an invitation cause you never know who you’re gonna meet – that’s how I met the second and last husband!

and Two, don’t ask why, ask why not?  Those two resolutions have changed my life and they just might work for you too.  In that spirit, don’t forget to check out our Why Not Wednesdays on Facebook– our day to try out new cocktails.  Why Not?
