I hope everybody had a great Christmas. We did. Lots of great food, thoughtful presents, great family time.
It’s a tradition of ours to go see a movie on Christmas Day. I remember the year that this tradition started. The year? 1981. The movie that year? “Raiders of the Lost Ark“. Still one of my all time favorites.
Then there was the year that we were in WV for Christmas. The year? 2001. The movie that year? “Ali”. The boys wanted to see that movie sooooo bad. They LOVED Muhammad Ali. They LOVED Will Smith. So off the three of us went to go see Ali Christmas Night.
Did we buy tickets for the hottest movie of the year ahead of time? Nah. It was West Virginia! It wouldn’t be crowded. It was crowded. It was sold out. I want to say the boys were disappointed; they weren’t, they were pissed. Not to worry, said Mom. I have a plan. I sashayed right up to the ticket counter and purchased three tickets to . . . . “Joe Somebody”. (I know, right?) We got popcorn, cokes, twizzlers, m&ms and went right into the theatre showing . . . Ali!
We found three seats way up in the back on the side and settled in. The movie started, the sound was muffled. Then the sound went off completely. Everyone in that sold out theatre waited and waited. Someone went out and reported it. Nothing changed. The crowd grew restless, lots of yelling and cursing started. It’s all fun and games until someone starts throwing 40 oz. beer bottles at the projectionist. We left Ali. We waited until we got back to Atlanta to see it properly. Ah, what a Christmas memory.
This year we took it a little to the extreme in that we went to go see a movie the day before Christmas Eve, we went to a movie on Christmas Eve (I know, right? But hey everyone had gone home, the children were all snug in their beds, under the watchful eyes of the other set of grandparents and AMC Northpoint with the reclining chairs was open!) and then another movie on Christmas Day!
I love movies.
It’s gotta be a reeeeeeally bad movie for me not to like it.
I even liked “A Good Day to Die Hard” Yippee kay yay!;) I just like the experience, the popcorn, the previews, pretty much everything. I don’t even mind so much when someone talks during a movie (see previous blog post).
We saw “Saving Mr. Banks” (awesome), “American Hustle” (awesomer) and “The Wolf of Wall Street” (awesomest). I’d recommend each and every one. Go see the first one as a family, do NOT go see the last one as a family. In fact, we had a family that took up the entire row in front of us get up and walk out. I don’t think they saw the Tweets first. Definitely not family friendly.
Also don’t make the mistake of seeing The Wolf of Wall Street with your parents…….. #BorderlinePorno #AwkoTaco
But I also highly recommend staying home on a big fluffy couch, with a cocktail in hand and not worrying about talking, sex scenes in front of grandma, or dodging 40 oz. beer bottles. Nothing better than ringing in the new year with a Happy New Vixen and a Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson movie, ………right Honey?:)
